Ted Cruz came in second in the recent Louisiana Republican primary behind Donald Trump but could win more delegates -- and the the real estate mogul is crying foul. Trump beat the Texas senator in the March 5 contest by 3.6%. Under party rules the pair each won 18 delegates.

The Democratic Win in Louisiana Is No Sign of the Party’s Revival

Saturday, Democrats elected their first governor in the Deep South in eight years, as Louisiana state legislator John Bel Edwards defeated GOP U.S. senator David Vitter. The Democrats' double-digit victory in Louisiana makes up for their losing the Kentucky governorship to Republicans three weeks ago. But Edwards's victory does little to change the unpopularity of Democrats in the South.

John Bel Edwards defeats David Vitter in Louisiana governor race

Democrat John Bel Edwards won the runoff election for Louisiana governor Saturday, defeating the once-heavy favorite, Republican David Vitter, and handing the Democrats their first statewide victory since 2008.
Edwards, a state lawmaker, will take over the office from term-limited Republican Gov. Bobby Jindal in January.

Louisiana governor candidates John Bel Edwards and David Vitter clash in heated final debate

In a final statewide TV debate Monday (Nov. 16), Democrat John Bel Edwards and Republican David Vitter began making the closing arguments in a wild gubernatorial campaign that often took on an angry tone. The two men came out swinging as the debate opened with a question about Syrian refugees; it ended with Vitter making a personal appeal to voters for forgiveness for his prostitution scandal and Edwards making the case that he's the best leader. In between, both men fumed at each other for a series of attacks that each said was a distortion of his record.
