Sturm: 2016´s gonna be A nightmare, believe me

“Our long national nightmare is over,” President Gerald Ford declared at his swearing-in, marking the end of the most dangerous constitutional crisis since the Civil War — Watergate. After becoming the only U.S. president ever to resign, Richard Nixon revealed in an interview his mistaken belief that “when the president does it, that means it isn’t illegal.” Thankfully, our constitutional system and watchdog media proved Nixon wrong...

Voters Have Defeated the Establishment, Now Will Decide Nominee

After years of pushing unwelcome candidates on an unhappy conservative base, the GOP Establishment has been soundly defeated in 2016. But some establishment players still dream of John Kasich or Paul Ryan emerging from the wreckage of a contested convention.

Common Core Sinks GOP Establishment Figures

Establishment Republicans are always mystified when they embrace Democratic Party policies and get hammered for it, particularly, as is frequently the case, when those programs don't work particularly well.

Armageddon for the GOP Establishment

The night could have gone worse for the GOP establishment-but I'm not really sure how. Not only did Donald Trump win an overwhelming victory in New Hampshire, but the establishment lane of viable candidates got more crowded than it had been going in. And remember that since the current primary calendar was inaugurated in 1976, no GOP nominee has ever emerged without winning Iowa or New Hampshire.

Trump, Cruz Prove Establishment Is Dead for 2016

The establishment features prominently in the GOP presidential race. It is what Donald Trump and Ted Cruz rail against. It is hated by a significant portion of the Republican electorate. It is a ready term of abuse.

A Rove-Stupid Merry Christmas: Signs We Are Now Beating the Establishment

On the heels of the disastrous and obscene Omnibus Spending Orgy rubber stamped by the Obama Republicans in Congress last week – there is actually hope that we have turned the corner against the Republican Establishment wing of the Washington Cartel.

Why the GOP Establishment Hasn't Yet Mobilized Behind Rubio

More than a month ago, Paul Singer, a billionaire hedge fund manager and one of the biggest donors to Republican candidates and causes in 2014, publicly endorsed Marco Rubio and urged others in the party to get back the Florida senator as well.  The endorsement, which the New York Times put on its front page, was interpreted as a sign that the Republican Party establishment was getting behind Rubio as the man to stop Donald Trump.

What Will Capitulation of the GOP Establishment Look Like?

It looks increasingly likely that Donald Trump will be the Republican nominee for President. He has led in the polls for four months, he has more money than all the other candidates combined in spite of which he is the beneficiary of seemingly limitless free media, and his campaign rallies have the excitement of rock concerts.

Bernie Sanders spinning lack of Senate support as a positive

Sen. Bernie Sanders claimed Monday that his inability to win a single endorsement from his Democratic Senate colleagues is actually a plus. --Having no support among the sitting senators shows he's not part of "the establishment," compared with Hillary Rodham Clinton, who has 31 Senate endorsements, he claimed.

Charlie Cook: Those Renegade Republicans

Almost half of the GOP’s voters are saying: Let’s start from scratch - Is the Republican Party going rogue? It’s hard to look at the opinion polling in the GOP presidential nomination contest and conclude anything else. As unexpected as many of the developments on the Democratic side have been, it doesn’t hold a candle to what is unfolding among the Republicans. (Snip) Should we see this as a rebellion against career politicians and the GOP establishment? Or, is roughly 40 percent of the GOP electorate throwing a temper tantrum? The answer is: both.
